Baby fine, Doggy not fine

Zoe is my rescue dog she lives with my mom but mom and I "share" her. We got her from the SPCA 5 years ago and she is just a doll. But she is now 11 and like many 11 year old dogs her health is failing. Recently mom and I have both noticed she is in a lot of pain and so mom took her into the vet. It is the C word, it is all over and she is in pain. Mom and I both believe in quality of life over quantity, for humans and pets. However she also knows if she had put her down while I wasn't there or didn't get to say good bye it would kill me. So on Saturday we are doing it, together. Zoe will spend tonight with me and R so I have some time to say good bye. I am very sad but know this is the right thing to do. She snapped at me twice during her last bath, she has never done that and has started to act aggressively toward my mom too. She is in pain and neither of us blame her for it but it also means she isn't safe to be around for kids. With my sis and her kids living with my mom and her levels of pain the Vet said "soon" when we asked when we should do it. So Saturday it is.

I am very sad, very very very sad about losing her. She isn't the first pet I have lost to C and sadly with the levels of pollution in the world she won't be the last. Please, I will need strength to get through this so please don't question our decision. Thanks for all the support ladies.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. My parents had to put our family dog down last October when she was 13 because she couldn't even stand on her own anymore and it was so incredibly hard. Good luck and be strong on Saturday!!

I'm so sorry. I know how hard it is to lose a pet. That's good that you have some time to say goodbye.

I am so sorry. There are few things that are harder in life than losing a beloved pet. You will definitely be in my prayers.

I'm so sorry, Ariella. The timing hits close to home. My cat, who lived with me for 1 year but then with my parents for the next 11 years, had to be put down today. I'm sad, too.

Oh Ariel, my heart goes out to you. Know that your Zoe is in my thoughts, as are you.
Our dog, Charlie, who is 15 next month, has slowed down so much. And DH and I have had the talk about knowing his time is near, and it pains me so, but I feel your tears. Peace be with Zoe.

Nestie, ABarker.

I am so sorry! I am the biggest animal sucker on the planet so I totally believe in quality of life, too. We've taken in so many animals it is stupid...we have 9 pets. And thankfully no carpet! Anyway my favorite cat in the world Cleo lived with me through college, my first marriage and half of this one so far, we had to put him down at 15. I do not question your decision at all but I do hate to think of you getting upset. Only you know what you can handle but I couldn't handle it when I was not pregnant. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your mom and Zoe.

Found your blog through a comment on another blog--just wanted to send you a (hug) as I know few things are as painful as losing a beloved furry member of the family.

I am so sorry. I know exactly how you feel, and will be forced to make the same decision for my dog soon. Hugs.

I am so sorry!! :( I haven't said goodbye to a pet since I was 13, but it is so tough, especially when you find out they are in pain and you didn't know. So sad. Big hugs to you.
